Jessi: Top 25 Spanish Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 8: Can you eat Spaniard food? (In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Spanish learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.)
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question Can you eat Spanish food? In Spanish this is
Javier: ¿Puedes comer comida española?
The first word in the question is
Javier: puedes
Jessi: meaning you can in English.
Javier: (Slow, by syllable) puedes
Jessi: Listen again and repeat.
Javier: puedes

Jessi: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is

Jessi: meaning eat.

To say "no", in a simple way, just say:
B: No. no puedo comer comida española
A: Which is like saying No, I can¡t eat Spanish food in English. Let's hear it slowly.
B: (Slowly) No. no puedo comer comida española
A: And one more time at normal speed:
B: No. no puedo comer comida española
Jessi: Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
Javier: sí
Jessi: meaning yes.
Javier: (Slow, by syllable) sí
Jessi: Now repeat
Javier: sí

A: And next
Javier: está
meaning is.
Javier: (Slow, by syllable) está
A:Now repeat.

meaning delicious.

Jessi: Listen to the speaker say, Yes, it's delicious., and then repeat.

Jessi: To expand on the pattern, replace delicious. with nice.
Javier: rica
Jessi: nice
Javier: (slow) rica (regular) rica
Jessi: Listen to the phrase again, this time with nice
Javier: Si, está rica
Jessi: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace delicious.. Say Yes, it's nice

Jessi: To use a different phrase, replace nice with tasty.

Jessi: Now, you want to say that it's tasty. . Answer the speaker's question.
Javier: ¿Puedes comer comida española? (five seconds) Si, está sabrosa
Jessi: Now, you want to say that it's salty. Respond to the question.
Javier: ¿Puedes comer comida española? (five seconds) Si, está salada
Jessi: Now you want to ask someone if they can eat Spanish food. Ask the question
(5 seconds)

When I was in Spain I was traveling by myself. The food I ate was good but I liked the food in France better
