Do you know how to talk about something you did in the past in Spanish? |
Welcome to Three Step Spanish Practice by SpanishPod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice the preterite tense forms of regular verbs. |
Let's look at the main dialogue. |
Two people are having a conversation. |
Oye, Valeria, ¿recuerdas tu primer viaje a México? |
"Hey, Valeria, do you remember your first trip to Mexico?" |
Claro, llegué hace muchos años para conocer a mi abuela. Fue increíble. |
"Of course, I arrived many years ago to meet my grandmother. It was amazing." |
llegué |
We use the preterite tense in Spanish to talk about actions that were completed at a specific time in the past. |
Let's quickly review how the preterite is formed for three common types of regular verbs: |
llegar (to arrive): |
llegué, llegaste, llegó, llegamos, llegasteis, llegaron |
comer (to eat): |
comí, comiste, comió, comimos, comisteis, comieron |
vivir (to live): |
viví, viviste, vivió, vivimos, vivisteis, vivieron |
In the dialogue, we saw: |
llegué – from llegar, meaning "I arrived," used to describe a completed action in the past. |
In this lesson, we'll keep practicing how to use these verbs to talk about specific events and experiences that have already happened. |
Let's get started. |
