Dialogue

Lesson Transcript

Do you know how to talk about something you did in the past in Spanish?
Welcome to Three Step Spanish Practice by SpanishPod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice the preterite tense forms of regular verbs.
Let's look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
Oye, Valeria, ¿recuerdas tu primer viaje a México?
"Hey, Valeria, do you remember your first trip to Mexico?"
Claro, llegué hace muchos años para conocer a mi abuela. Fue increíble.
"Of course, I arrived many years ago to meet my grandmother. It was amazing."
llegué
We use the preterite tense in Spanish to talk about actions that were completed at a specific time in the past.
Let's quickly review how the preterite is formed for three common types of regular verbs:
llegar (to arrive):
llegué, llegaste, llegó, llegamos, llegasteis, llegaron
comer (to eat):
comí, comiste, comió, comimos, comisteis, comieron
vivir (to live):
viví, viviste, vivió, vivimos, vivisteis, vivieron
In the dialogue, we saw:
llegué – from llegar, meaning "I arrived," used to describe a completed action in the past.
In this lesson, we'll keep practicing how to use these verbs to talk about specific events and experiences that have already happened.
Let's get started.
