We'll do it through a short conversation that shows how to use this form in real-life situations.
Let's look at the dialogue.
As you listen, pay attention to how they ask about the topic and how the other person responds.
Valeria, ¡mira esta foto! Es de cuando mi hijo Adolfo era muy pequeño.
¡Qué adorable! ¿Cómo era él en esa época?
Era muy curioso y hablaba sin parar sobre deportes.
Se nota que siempre le gustó mantenerse activo.
Sí, antes lo llevaba a mis clases de tenis y a él le encantaba mirar.
Seguro que ahora ha cambiado bastante, pero mantiene esa pasión por el ejercicio.

Valeria, ¡mira esta foto! Es de cuando mi hijo Adolfo era muy pequeño.
"Valeria, look at this picture! It's from when my son Adolfo was very little."
¡Qué adorable! ¿Cómo era él en esa época?
"How adorable! What was he like at that time?"
