INTRODUCTION
Michael: Hi everyone, I'm Michael.
Laura: And I'm Laura.
Michael: And welcome to Must-Know Medical Spanish Sentence Structures. Common Immediate Treatment Plans.
Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn a sentence pattern for letting your patient know what you are prescribing.
PATTERN
Michael: First, let’s look at the Spanish sentence for, "I will prescribe you a medication for the pain."
Laura: Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el dolor.
Laura: [slow] Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el dolor.
Michael: The pattern for notifying your patient about what you are prescribing has three elements. First, the verb meaning "[I] will." Note how the "I" is omitted from the Spanish sentence, because in Spanish the subject is implied by how the verb is conjugated.
Laura: voy, [slow] voy, [normal] voy.
Michael: Second, the phrase meaning, in this context, "prescribe you."
Laura: a recetarle, [slow] a recetarle, [normal] a recetarle.
Michael: And last, the information about what you are prescribing — in this case, "a medication for the pain."
Laura: un medicamento para el dolor, [slow] un medicamento para el dolor, [normal] un medicamento para el dolor.
Michael: Altogether, we have... "I will prescribe you a medication for the pain."
Laura: Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el dolor. [slow] Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el dolor. [normal] Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el dolor.
Michael: Here’s another example meaning, "I will prescribe you a medication for the stomach." First, the verb "[I] will."

Laura: un medicamento para el estómago [slow] un medicamento para el estómago, [normal] un medicamento para el estómago.
Michael: Altogether we have...
Laura: Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el estómago. [slow] Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el estómago. [normal] Voy a recetarle un medicamento para el estómago.
Michael: "I will prescribe you a medication for the stomach."

Laura: Voy a recetarle + [prescription].
