Eric: This is Must-Know Spanish Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 13. In this lesson you'll learn the second set of Common Expressions Related to Money.

SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Anna: pasta
Anna: pelas
Anna: ser un rata
Anna: chorizo
Eric: Anna, what's our first expression?
Anna: pasta
Eric: literally meaning "pasta." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "money."
Anna: [SLOW] pasta [NORMAL] pasta
Eric: Listeners, please repeat.
Anna: pasta

Eric: Use this slang expression when you're talking about money with friends or in a colloquial context.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Anna: [NORMAL] Con ese negocio gané una pasta gansa. [SLOW] Con ese negocio gané una pasta gansa.
Eric: "With that business, I won a lot of money."
Anna: [NORMAL] Con ese negocio gané una pasta gansa.
Eric: Okay, what's the next expression?

Eric: literally meaning "peels." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "money." as well.

Eric: Okay, what's our next expression?
Anna: ser un rata
Eric: literally meaning "be a rat." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "to be stingy."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you're referring to somebody who doesn't want to spend money on anything.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: "Nobody can be as stingy as Elena."
Anna: [NORMAL] No se puede ser más rata que Elena.
Eric: Okay, what's the last expression?
Anna: chorizo
Eric: literally meaning "name of a Spanish cold meat, or spicy sausage." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "thief."
Anna: [SLOW] chorizo [NORMAL] chorizo

Eric: Use this slang expression when you're describing someone who steals. Usually used to describe politicians.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Anna: [NORMAL] Cada vez hay más chorizos en este país. [SLOW] Cada vez hay más chorizos en este país.
Eric: "There are more and more thefts in this country."
Anna: [NORMAL] Cada vez hay más chorizos en este país.
