INTRODUCTION
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric.
Alex: And I'm Alex.
Eric: And welcome to Must-Know Spanish Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 12. Asking about a person.
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for asking about a person.
PATTERN
Eric: For example,
Eric: "Who will come to the party?"
Alex: ¿Quién vendrá a la fiesta?
Alex: [slow] ¿Quién vendrá a la fiesta?
Eric: The pattern for asking about a person has 3 elements. First, "Who."
Alex: Quién.
Eric: Second, a conjugated verb, "will come," in the third person singular form.
Alex: vendrá.
Eric: Third, a complement, "to the party."
Alex: a la fiesta.
Eric: Altogether, we have..."Who will come to the party?"
Alex: ¿Quién vendrá a la fiesta? [slow] ¿Quién vendrá a la fiesta? [normal] ¿Quién vendrá a la fiesta?
Eric: The word "who" is at the beginning of the question, followed by a conjugated verb that will express the tense of the action and number of the subject. At the end you can add more information that will complement the action, such as a noun, adverb, or noun phrase.
Alex: ¿Quién vendrá a la fiesta?
Eric: So remember that to ask about a person, first start with the word "who", followed by a conjugated verb, and end with a complement for more details.
Eric: Here is another example meaning, "Who did this?" First, "Who."
Alex: Quién.
Eric: Second, a conjugated verb, "did," in the third person singular form.
Alex: hizo.
Eric: Third, the complement, "this".
Alex: esto.
Eric: Altogether we have..
Alex: ¿Quién hizo esto? [slow] ¿Quién hizo esto? [normal] ¿Quién hizo esto?
Eric: "Who did this?"
[pause]
Alex: ¿Quién hizo esto?
Eric: How do you say - "Who will be chosen? " To give you a hint, "to be" is..
Alex: ser. [slow] ser. [normal] ser.
Eric: Who will be chosen?
[pause]
Alex: ¿Quién será elegido? [slow] ¿Quién será elegido? [normal] ¿Quién será elegido?
[pause]
Alex: ¿Quién será elegido?
