Hola a todos! Soy Lucia. Hi everybody! I’m Lucia.
Welcome to SpanishPod101.com Español en tres minutos. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Spanish.
In the last lesson we learned the phrase ¿Cuánto cuesta esto? “How much is it?” In this lesson we’ll see how we can answer that question by counting soles in Spanish. In Perú the currency is the SOL.
Let’s try to say prices in Spanish. Start by trying to say "26 Soles and 56 cents."
Veintiséis soles y cincuenta y seis céntimos.
[slowly] Veintiséis soles y cincuenta y seis céntimos.
Un céntimo is one cent and céntimos is “cents.”
First, we say the number of Soles, then soles, then y, the number of cents and finally céntimos.
Just remember that if we are talking about only 1 Sol and only 1 cent, we have to say Un sol y un céntimo, removing the ‘es’ and the last ‘s’ from the words.
Let’s try another example:
"34 Soles and 60 cents."
Treinta y cuatro soles y sesenta céntimos.
[slowly] Treinta y cuatro soles y sesenta céntimos.
Get ready for the next example. This one is a little longer:
"99 Soles and 99 cents."
Noventa y nueve soles y noventa y nueve céntimos.
[slowly] Noventa y nueve soles y noventa y nueve céntimos.
That takes a lot of effort to say, doesn’t it!
Now it’s time for Lucia’s Insights.
The ‘Sol’ has been the Peruvian currency since 1995.
If you have to pay in ‘Soles’, here are some examples of prices:
‘McDonald’s set – 15 soles’
Un menú de McDonald’s son quince soles.
‘T-shirt – 18 soles’
Una camiseta son dieciocho soles.
‘Soda – 2 soles with 50 cents’
Una gaseosa son dos soles.
‘Bottle of water – 1 sol’
Una botella de agua es un sol.
You should ask your friends in Spain if they want to go shopping with you to practice these phrases! But first you’ll have to check if they have other plans or not. Do you know how to ask that in Spanish? If not, I’ll see you in the next lesson!
