INTRODUCTION
Becky: On the phone. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to understand the basic vocabulary on the phone in Spanish.

Lesson focus

Becky: Here’s the informal way to say “Hello”, while answering the phone in Spanish.
Laura: [Normal] Bueno.
Becky: This expression has only one word that literally means “good”
Laura: [Normal] bueno [Slow] bueno
Becky: Listen again to the expression used in Mexico to answer the phone, that is equivalent to “Hello”.
Laura: [Slow] Bueno. [Normal] Bueno.
Becky: Ok, now let’s see the way to say “This is + name.”, for example “This is Laura.”
Laura: [Normal] Habla Laura.
Becky: First is a word meaning “speak “
Laura: [Normal] habla [Slow] habla
Becky: Last is the person’s name, in this case Laura
Laura: [Normal] Laura
Becky: Listen again to the phrase meaning “This is Laura.”
Laura: [Slow] Habla Laura. [Normal] Habla Laura.
Becky: Next up is the way to say “May I talk to + name?”, for example “May I talk to Jorge?”
Laura: [Normal] ¿Puedo hablar con Jorge?
Becky: First is a word meaning “may I”
Laura: [Normal] puedo [Slow] puedo
Becky: Next is the word meaning “talk”
Laura: [Normal] hablar [Slow] hablar
Becky: Next is the word meaning “with”

Becky: Last is the name of the person that we are trying to reach, in this case Jorge

Becky: Listen again to the phrase meaning “May I talk to Jorge?”

Becky: Finally, here is a way to say “I’ll call again later.”

Becky: Last is the word meaning “while”
