Becky: Possession. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to talk about possession in Spanish.

Becky: Here’s the informal way to say “Do you have a pen?” in Spanish.
Laura: [Normal] ¿Tienes una pluma?
Becky: First is a word meaning “you have”
Laura: [Normal] tienes [Slow] tienes
Becky: Next is the word meaning “a”
Laura: [Normal] una [Slow] una
Becky: Last is the word meaning “pen”
Laura: [Normal] pluma [Slow] pluma
Becky: Listen again to the informal phrase meaning “Do you have a pen?”

Laura: This same pattern of Tienes + noun can be used to talk about subjective things as well, such as hunger or sleep. ¿Tienes hambre? and ¿Tienes sueño? Meaning [are you hungry/are you sleepy] are questions you will hear often.
