Eric: This is Must-Know Mexican Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 25. In this lesson you'll learn Phrases to Describe People.
Eric: Remember to conjugate the verb "to be" according to the subject you are describing.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Laura: ser buena onda
Laura: ser mala onda
Laura: ser mandilón
Laura: ser metiche
Eric: Laura, what's our first expression?
Laura: ser buena onda
Eric: literally meaning "to be good wave." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "easy going, good."
Laura: [SLOW] ser buena onda [NORMAL] ser buena onda

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone is easy going, friendly, nice to hang out with. It can also be used to express that a situation is "cool".

Laura: [NORMAL] El amigo de mi hermana es buena onda. [SLOW] El amigo de mi hermana es buena onda.
Eric: "My sister's friend is a cool person."

Eric: literally meaning "to be bad wave ." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "bad, unfortunate."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone is unfriendly or bad, or that a situation is unfortunate.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] Mi maestro es mala onda, nos da mucha tarea. [SLOW] Mi maestro es mala onda, nos da mucha tarea.
Eric: "My teacher isn't cool, he gives us a lot of homework."
Laura: [NORMAL] Mi maestro es mala onda, nos da mucha tarea.
Eric: Okay, what's our next expression?
Laura: ser mandilón
Eric: literally meaning "to be wearing an apron ." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "to be a man that helps with the house chores, a submissive boyfriend or husband."
Laura: [SLOW] ser mandilón [NORMAL] ser mandilón
Eric: Listeners, please repeat.
Laura: ser mandilón

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express that a man is always doing what his girlfriend or wife is telling him to do. Be careful when you use this phrase, because it is insulting, but can be a joke when used among friends.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] No pudo venir por mandilón. [SLOW] No pudo venir por mandilón.
Eric: "He couldn't come because of his girlfriend."
Laura: [NORMAL] No pudo venir por mandilón.

Eric: When it's used as a slang expression, it means "to be nosy."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone is "nosy", trying to know or participate in something that is private.
