Do you know how to talk about transportation in Spanish? |
Welcome to Three Step Spanish Practice by SpanishPod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to talk about transportation. |
Let's look at the main dialogue. |
Two people are having a conversation. |
Voy a verlos a las siete. Voy a ir a la Condesa en metro. ¿Quieres venir conmigo? |
"I'm going to see them at seven. I'm going to go to La Condesa by subway. Do you want to come with me?" |
Estoy cansado. Voy a ir en taxi. |
"I'm tired. I'm going to go by taxi." |
In this conversation, both people talked about how they would get to the destination. This person |
Says Voy a ir a la Condesa en metro. "I'm going to go to La Condesa by subway." |
In this sentence, we have the expression en metro, meaning "by subway," and it is preceded by the preposition en. |
Then, this person |
Says Voy a ir en taxi. "I'm going to go by taxi." In this sentence, we see the phrase en taxi, which means by taxi. The preposition en is used here as well. |
In Spanish, en is a preposition that most commonly means "in," "on," or "by," depending on the context. When talking about means of transportation, en is typically translated as "by." |
But, when you talk about going somewhere on foot, you don't use en like you would with other types of transportation. Instead, the fixed expression is a pie, which means "on foot." |
Let's practice with more transportation vocabulary in this lesson. |
