Getting Medical Assistance in Mexico
In this lesson, we’ll introduce you to some phrases you can use in case you need medical assistance. Sometimes the body takes a little time to adjust to traveling, and your immune system is often exposed to completely new things. In this lesson, we’ll go over some phrases that will help you get medical assistance.
When a person feels sick, usually he or she will want to communicate that to others, either to get medical help, or just to get some empathy and general care.
We’ll start with the phrase “I feel very sick”.
In Spanish, this is: Me siento muy enfermo.
Let’s break it down by syllable.
(slow) Me si-en-to muy en-fer-mo.
Let’s hear it again.
Me siento muy enfermo.
First, we have me siento, which means “I feel (myself)”.
(slow) me si-en-to.
me siento.
Next we have muy, which means “very”.
(slow) muy.
muy.
At the end we have the word enfermo, and this in English means “sick”.
(slow) en-fer-mo.
enfermo.
Altogether, we have “I feel very sick”.
Me siento muy enfermo.
Let’s say you think that your health condition is serious, and you need an ambulance. The way to say “Call an ambulance, please”, in Spanish is:
Llame una ambulancia, por favor.
Let’s break it down.
(slow) Lla-me una am-bu-lan-ci-a, por fa-vor.
Llame una ambulancia, por favor.
The first word, llame, is a form of the verb “to call”.
(slow) lla-me.
llame.
After that we have una ambulancia, which means “an ambulance” in English.
(slow) una am-bu-lan-ci-a.
una ambulancia.
And at the end comes por favor.
The whole phrase once again is:
Llame una ambulancia, por favor.
To close out today's lessons, we’d like you to practice what you have just learned. I’ll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you’re responsible for shouting it out loud. You’ll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so !buena suerte! which means “Good luck!” in Spanish.
“I feel very sick.” - Me siento muy enfermo.
“Call an ambulance, please.” - Llame una ambulancia, por favor.
Alright! That's going to do it for this lesson. Hasta luego.
