It's more a regional preference. Melocoton is more commonly used in Spain and Durazno in Latin American.

But remember this is not a rule, you can hear any of the two in both continents.

Gracias por la lección; ya sabía la mayoría de las palabras, pero he olvidado "albaricoque," y ahora sé los términos "arándano," y "higo." Por otro lado, ¿por qué no mencionaste la lima ni la mora?
