| Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for communicating to your patient what you are about to do during a physical examination. |
| PATTERN |
| Michael: First, let’s look at the Spanish sentence for, "I'm going to examine your chest." |
| Laura: Le voy a examinar el pecho. |
| Laura: [slow] Le voy a examinar el pecho. |
| Michael: The pattern for communicating to your patient what you are about to do during a physical examination has three elements. First, the phrase meaning "I'm going to" in this context. |
| Laura: le voy a, [slow] le voy a, [normal] le voy a. |
| Michael: Second, the verb "to examine" in the infinitive form. |
| Laura: examinar, [slow] examinar ,[normal] examinar. |
| Michael: And last, the part of the body that you are about to check during the physical examination — "chest." |
| Laura: el pecho, [slow] el pecho,[normal] el pecho. |
| Michael: All together, we have... "I'm going to examine your chest." |
| Laura: Le voy a examinar el pecho. [slow] Le voy a examinar el pecho. [normal] Le voy a examinar el pecho. |
| Michael: Here’s another example, meaning, "I'm going to examine your head and neck." First is the phrase meaning "I'm going to" in this context. |
