Eric: This is Must-Know Mexican Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 8. In this lesson you'll learn Old-fashioned Mexican Slang Expressions.
Eric: These are the types of expressions that older people are fond of. But if you feel like saying them, go ahead, because young adults use them once in awhile as well.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Laura: a todo dar
Laura: hacerse pato
Laura: sepa la bola
Laura: pan de Dios
Eric: Laura, what's our first expression?
Laura: a todo dar
Eric: literally meaning "in full swing." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "the best, likable."
Laura: [SLOW] a todo dar [NORMAL] a todo dar

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express that something or someone is the best or likable.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: Okay, what's the next expression?

Eric: literally meaning "to make yourself a duck." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "wasting time ."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone is procrastinating or acting like a fool.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: "She likes to waste time when it's time to clean."
Laura: [NORMAL] Le gusta hacerse pato cuando es hora de limpiar.
Eric: Okay, what's our next expression?
Laura: sepa la bola
Eric: literally meaning "the mass knows." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "who knows, I don't know."
Laura: [SLOW] sepa la bola [NORMAL] sepa la bola

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express that you don't know. It is mainly used when it is assumed that the question is too difficult or something is not sure or certain. Be careful when you use this expression; it isn't a respectful way to answer a question posed by an older person or a superior.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] Sepa la bola cuando va a dejar de llover. [SLOW] Sepa la bola cuando va a dejar de llover.
Eric: "Who knows when it will stop raining."

Laura: pan de Dios
Eric: literally meaning "bread of God." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "a very nice and good person."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone is a very nice and good person.

Eric: "My grandmother has a heart of gold, she always helps me."
