Eric: Hi everyone, and welcome back to SpanishPod101.com. I'm Eric.

Eric: This is Must-Know Mexican Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 11. In this lesson you'll learn Expressions Used as Adjectives.
Eric: Use these adjective-expressions to describe either things or people.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Laura: chido, chida
Laura: fresa
Laura: apretado, apretada
Laura: ñoño, ñoña
Eric: Laura, what's our first expression?
Laura: chido, chida
Eric: When it's used as a slang expression it means "cool."
Laura: [SLOW] chido, chida [NORMAL] chido, chida
Eric: Listeners, please repeat.

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express that you like something, as this word is the equivalent of "cool". You can also use this term to refer to a "cool person."
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] Tu carro nuevo está bien chido. [SLOW] Tu carro nuevo está bien chido.
Eric: "Your new car is so cool."
Laura: [NORMAL] Tu carro nuevo está bien chido.
Eric: Okay, what's the next expression?
Laura: fresa
Eric: literally meaning "strawberry." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "preppy,” or “a stuck-up rich person."
Laura: [SLOW] fresa [NORMAL] fresa

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to describe someone who is rich and has a stuck-up attitude. Although this is a feminine noun, it is used for both males and females.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] Su novio es bien fresa. [SLOW] Su novio es bien fresa.
Eric: "Her boyfriend is very preppy."
Laura: [NORMAL] Su novio es bien fresa.
Eric: Okay, what's our next expression?
Laura: apretado, apretada
Eric: literally meaning "tight." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "uptight."
Laura: [SLOW] apretado, apretada [NORMAL] apretado, apretada

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to describe someone as not fun or very serious.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] Nunca lo invitamos a las fiestas por apretado. [SLOW] Nunca lo invitamos a las fiestas por apretado.
Eric: "We never invite him to parties for being so uptight."
Laura: [NORMAL] Nunca lo invitamos a las fiestas por apretado.
Eric: Okay, what's the last expression?
Laura: ñoño, ñoña
Eric: When it's used as a slang expression it means "mommy's boy, nerd."
Laura: [SLOW] ñoño, ñoña [NORMAL] ñoño, ñoña

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone is whiny and/or clingy with his mother. You can also use this term to refer to a person that loves studying too much, as a synonym of "nerd." Be careful when you use this word as it can be used as a playful term among friends, but people could get offended.

Laura: [NORMAL] No seas ñoño y ven a la fiesta. [SLOW] No seas ñoño y ven a la fiesta.
Eric: "Don't be a bore and come to the party."
