Eric: This is Must-Know Mexican Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 1. In this lesson you'll learn Some of the Most Common Slang Expressions in Mexico.
Eric: These are the expressions you'll hear around any Mexican city as part of the interactions in daily life.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Laura: qué onda
Laura: ¿mande?
Laura: qué padre
Laura: ándale
Eric: Laura, what's our first expression?
Laura: qué onda
Eric: literally meaning "what wave." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "what's up, hello."
Laura: [SLOW] qué onda [NORMAL] qué onda
Eric: Listeners, please repeat.
Laura: qué onda

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to greet somebody. Be careful when you use this phrase because it’s very informal, and should only be used with people that are friends.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Laura: [NORMAL] Qué onda. ¿A dónde vas? [SLOW] Qué onda. ¿A dónde vas?
Eric: "What's up, where are you going?"
Laura: [NORMAL] Qué onda. ¿A dónde vas?
Eric: Okay, what's the next expression?
Laura: ¿mande?
Eric: literally meaning "order me." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "excuse me, what did you say?"
Laura: [SLOW] ¿mande? [NORMAL] ¿mande?

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want someone to repeat what they said or as a response to someone calling out to you, letting them know that they now have your attention.

Eric: "What? Did you say something to me?"

Eric: literally meaning "what a father." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "cool, that's cool."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express in an informal way that something is cool or great. This phrase is used in a friendly, informal setting.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: "The movie is great!"
Laura: [NORMAL] ¡Qué padre está la película!
Eric: Okay, what's the last expression?
Laura: ándale
Eric: literally meaning "walk." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "come on, chop-chop, that's right."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to ask someone to hurry up doing something. It can also be used to agree with what someone else just said.
