Hi everyone, I am Rosa and this is Spanish weekly words holiday’s edition. I'm about to discover what holiday we'll be talking about today. So it is Christmas! Yay!
1. Navidad "Christmas"
So during Christmas Day, we have, like, dinner with the family normally. we eat a lot, we don't normally give our presents on Christmas Day, because we have the three wise men in January. we eat a lot of seafood but it depends on each family, there's no like something very traditional, like the turkey, for example, in America for Thanksgiving dinner.
Durante la Navidad puedo ver a toda mi familia "I can see my whole family during Christmas.”
2. Árbol de Navidad "Christmas tree"
So we normally have a Christmas tree inside the house, and then the three wise men like leave their presents there, normally with a great deal with some lights or figures.
Este año no tuvimos árbol de Navidad. "This year we didn't have a Christmas tree.”
3. Belén "Nativity scene"
So almost in most houses we build these the nativity scenes, with little figures, and there are, like on Christmas markets in the cities you can find a lot of these figures to do your own nativity scene. There are also competitions of huge nativity scenes, it's interesting like some of them are very original.
Mi belén sólo tiene cinco figuras. "My nativity scene only has five figures."
4. Turrón "nougat candy"
Which is a Christmas sweet, similar to marzipan or nougat, it can be of chocolate with some, like, nuts, or it can also be an almond turrón, kind of like a nougat, so it's thick, has a lot of sugar, but it's super traditional during Christmas.
Cuando empiezo a comer turrón de almendra, no puedo parar. "When I start eating almond turron, I cannot stop.”
5. Lotería de Navidad "Christmas lottery"
There are children singing the numbers of the lottery.
Nunca he ganado nada en la lotería de la Navidad "I've never won anything in the Christmas lottery"
