Monica: Hola todos.
Michelle: Hi guys, Michelle here. Latin Prefixes. Circumstances Were Beyond My Control. So Monica, tell me, what are we looking at in this lesson?
Monica: In this lesson, you will learn about Latin prefixes.
Michelle: Going to bare-bones.
Monica: Yep. And we are still with Diana and Beatrice.
Michelle: So is Diana still feeling guilty?
Monica: What do you think?
Michelle: Oh that’s too bad. You wouldn’t believe Beatrice’s advice - tell Marco.
Monica: No. Even in an informal conversation, that is taking a risk.
Michelle: Is it ever?
Michelle: Let’s listen to the conversation.
DIALOGUE
DIANA: No es fácil olvidar lo que hice. Las circunstancias me llevaron a cometer este terrible error.
BEATRIZ: Eso te va a atormentar por mucho tiempo... no creas que te olvidas y ya. Va a tomarte un tiempo para poder sobreponerte a esto.
DIANA: ¡Qué horror! La conciencia me va a impedir vivir en paz. Me gustaría deshacer los problemas como por arte de magia.
BEATRIZ: Eso sería evadir la realidad. Deberías llamarlo, proponerle que se vean, contarle y pedirle perdón.
DIANA: ¡Jamás! Esa seria la gota que derrame el vaso. Me gustaría poder posponer esa conversación. No quisiera tener que hablar de esto con él.
BEATRIZ: Siento decírtelo así, pero hubieras pensado en eso antes de ser infiel.
DIANA: Cierto, tienes toda la razón. Lo voy a hacer, hay que ser responsable y afrontar las consecuencias.

Monica: The first word we will look at is “sobreponerse”.
Michelle: To get over something.
Monica: This is an irregular verb because at its root is the verb “poner” which is irregular.
Michelle: Pongo.
Monica: Si, “pongo” entonces “sobreponerse” sería “yo me sobrepongo”.

Monica: No Mitch, it is not. The prefix is derivative morpheme from the affix class which we put at the beginning of a radical in order to form a word with a different meaning.
Michelle: I remember that in Spanish, prefixes generally come from the old prepositions in Greek and Latin.
Monica: Alguien ha aprendido mucho.
Michelle: Sí, yo yo yo yo. And of course our audience.
Monica: Claro que sí.
Michelle: ¿Y para hoy cuál tenemos, los prefijos Latinos or the Greek ones?
Monica: Hoy tenemos los latinos.
Michelle: Umm it’s important to remember that a prefix attributes an accessory idea to the meaning of the radical.
Monica: Aja, Mich. Como te imaginarás hay muchos prefijos latinos.
Michelle: Así es, yo ya me lo imaginaba.
Monica: Ajaja bueno mira, yo seleccione los más usados y importantes para hoy, entonces no vamos a estar aquí toda la noche.

Michelle: These prefixes mean separation.
