Gina: Hi everyone, I'm Gina.
Lucia: And I'm Lucia!
Gina: And welcome to Culture Class Essential Spanish Vocabulary, Lesson 3! In this lesson you'll learn five essential words related to food and drink. These are five popular Peruvian beverages, hand picked. You can find a complete list of vocabulary at SpanishPod101.com.

Lucia: Inca Kola

Inca Kola is a yellow soda made of lemon verbena and the number one soft drink in the country. Inca Kola is a symbol of national pride and patriotism in Peru.

Chicha morada is a traditional homemade juice made with boiling purple corn, pineapple, cinnamon, clove, and sugar. The invention of this juice dates back to before the Inca Empire.

Coca tea is made from the leaves of the coca plant and has been commonly consumed in the highlands of Peru for ages. It’s famously used for altitude sickness as well as a stimulant. You can find coca leaves or tea bags in supermarkets.

Lucia: [normal] Si viajas a la sierra del Perú, encontrarás mate de coca en todos lados.
Gina: “If you travel to the highlands of Peru you will find coca tea everywhere.”

Maracuya juice is homemade juice made from the passion fruit, maracuyá. It’s refreshing, nutritional, and cheap. This juice is commonly consumed in the summer time.

Gina: “Drinking too much maracuya juice can be harmful for people with low blood pressure.”

Pisco is an alcoholic drink made from the distillation of certain grapes. It’s only produced in some coastal cities of Peru and it’s been declared a representative product of the country. Nowadays, there is dispute among Peru and Chile regarding to whom it belongs.

Lucia: [normal] El día del Pisco se celebra el cuarto domingo del mes de julio.
Gina: “Pisco Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July.”

no carla 소주 looks like water:smile: and actually if under the age 19, you can't drink it. i'm under the age, so i dont know what it tastes like.but the adults say it tastes sweet and bitter but mostly bitter. 막걸리 is made of rice .thats why it looks like milk.and again 막걸리 , the adults say, tastes kind of like that sweet sap in grapes.:smile: hope you have a nice day!

the most popular drink in korea is 막걸리 witch looks like milk and 동동 주 witch looks like 소주 witch is a alcholic drink goes with meat :smile:
