Gina: And welcome to Culture Class Essential Spanish Vocabulary, Lesson 24! In this lesson you'll learn five essential words related to society and culture. These are five well-known writers in Peru, hand picked. You can find a complete list of vocabulary at SpanishPod101.com.

César Vallejo was a Peruvian poet, writer, playwright, and journalist. He is considered one of the best poets of the twentieth century of any language with his books "Los Heraldos Negros" and "Trilce".

Ricardo Palma was a Peruvian writer best known for his book called "Tradiciones Peruanas". After the War of the Pacific, Ricardo Palma was appointed director of the National Library and took on the task of rebuilding it, as it had been ransacked by the occupation forces of the Chilean army in 1881.

Mario Vargas Llosa is a Peruvian novelist, politician, and journalist who won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature. Some of his novels are "The Time of the Hero", "The Green House" and "Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter".
