Hi, everyone, I’m Denise from SpanishPod101.com. In this video, we’ll be talking about the Top 10 Life Events You Should Be Able to Talk About in Spanish. Let’s begin!
EVENT 1
[Normal] nacimiento [Slow] nacimiento
"birth"
Festejamos nuestro nacimiento cada año.
"We celebrate our birth every year."
By the way, the word for "birthday" is cumpleaños.
EVENT 2
[Normal] graduar [Slow] graduar
"graduate"
Here is a sample sentence, Después de que me gradue, voy a viajar por el mundo por un año.
It means "After I graduate, I will travel the world for one year."
In Mexico, junior high school and high school consist of three years each, and a bachelor’s degree takes four years.
EVENT 3
[Normal] conseguir un trabajo [Slow] conseguir un trabajo
"get a job"
No es fácil conseguir un trabajo después de la universidad.
"It's not easy to get a job after university."
EVENT 4
[Normal] comprometer [Slow] comprometer
"engagement"
¿Estás comprometido? ¡Felicitaciones!
"Are you engaged? Congratulations!"
In Mexico, before proposing, it is still considered quite important to ask for the father’s permission first.

"wedding"
Mexican weddings can turn into parties that can last all night long and continue with a traditional breakfast the next morning.
Mi boda perfecta sería en una playa.
"My perfect wedding would be at a beach."
EVENT 6

"buy a house"
Voy a comprar una casa en la ciudad.
"I will buy a house in the city."
You can substitute una casa en la ciudad with another noun phrase to express that you will buy something.

"anniversary"
La plata es el regalo tradicional por el vigesimoquinto aniversario de bodas.
"Silver is the traditional gift for the 25th Wedding Anniversary."
Among young mexican couples, the first monthly and yearly anniversaries are also celebrated.

[Normal] retirar [Slow] retirar
"retire"
Mi abuelo se quiere retirar en un año.
"My grandfather wants to retire in a year."
Currently, in Mexico the retirement age is 65 years old.
EVENT 9
[Normal] viajar [Slow] viajar
"travel"
Ire a viajar cuando tenga suficientes vacaciones.
"I will travel when I have enough vacation days."
Labor laws guarantee at least six vacation days each year in Mexico… that’s not much!
EVENT 10
[Normal] funeral [Slow] funeral
"funeral"
Nadie quiere ir a un funeral.
"Nobody wants to go to a funeral."
Like in many cultures, the appropriate color to wear to a funeral in Mexico is black.
EVENT 11
[Normal] promoción [Slow] promoción
"promotion"
Esta noche celebraremos la promoción de mi mamá.
"Tonight, we will celebrate my mother's promotion."
You can change la promoción to another event or occasion.
EVENT 12
[Normal] trasladar [Slow] trasladar
"move"
Me trasladé a los suburbios el año pasado.
"I moved to the suburbs last year."
Another word for "move" is mover.
