Becky: Welcome to 3-Minute Spanish Season 1, Lesson 9 - Using Adjectives. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to use adjectives in simple sentences in Spanish.
Becky: Here’s the way a male speaker would say “I am American.” in Spanish.
Laura: [Normal] Yo soy americano.
Becky: First is a word meaning “I”
Laura: [Normal] yo [Slow] yo
Becky: Next is the word meaning “am”
Laura: [Normal] soy [Slow] soy
Becky: Last is the word meaning “American”
Laura: [Normal] americano [Slow] americano
Becky: Listen again to the phrase meaning “I am American.”
Laura: [Slow] Yo soy americano. [Normal] Yo soy americano.
Becky: Ok, now let’s take a look at the way a female speaker would say “I am American.”
Laura: [Normal] Yo soy americana.
Becky: First is a word meaning “I”
Laura: [Normal] yo [Slow] yo
Becky: Next is the word meaning “am”
Laura: [Normal] soy [Slow] soy
Becky: Last is the word meaning “American”
Laura: [Normal] americana [Slow] americana
Becky: Listen again to the phrase meaning “I am American.”
Laura: [Slow] Yo soy americana. [Normal] Yo soy americana.
Becky: Next up is the way to say “We are Mexican.”
Laura: [Normal] Nosotros somos mexicanos.
Becky: First is a word meaning “we”
Laura: [Normal] nosotros [Slow] nosotros
Becky: Next is the word meaning “are”
Laura: [Normal] somos [Slow] somos
Becky: Last is the word meaning “Mexican”
Laura: [Normal] mexicanos [Slow] mexicanos
Becky: Listen again to the phrase meaning “We are Mexican. “
Laura: [Slow] Nosotros somos mexicanos. [Normal] Nosotros somos mexicanos.
Becky: Finally is a way to say “They are Germans” referring to two or more female persons.
Laura: [Normal] Ellas son alemanas.
Becky: First is a word meaning “they”
Laura: [Normal] ellas [Slow] ellas
Becky: Next is the word meaning “are”
Laura: [Normal] son [Slow] son
Becky: Last is the word meaning “Germans”
Laura: [Normal] alemanas [Slow] alemanas
Becky: Listen again to the phrase meaning “They are Germans.”
Laura: [Slow] Ellas son alemanas. [Normal] Ellas son alemanas.

Laura: Another way to say your nationality is by using the preposition de and the country’s name. For example Soy de Estados Unidos, or Soy de México.

Well, we are all Americans because is the American continent.

But I don't believe people get upset about the US calling themselves Americans.

Natives of South America, Central America and Mexico.... Do not like people who were born in USA to call themselves Americans.

They feel they are Americans also.
