Becky: Welcome to 3-Minute Spanish Season 1, Lesson 10 - Asking how much. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask how much something costs in Spanish.
Becky: Here’s the way to ask “How much does this cost?” in Spanish.
Laura: [Normal] ¿Cuánto cuesta esto?
Becky: First is a word meaning “how much”
Laura: [Normal] cuánto [Slow] cuánto
Becky: Next is the word meaning “cost”
Laura: [Normal] cuesta [Slow] cuesta
Becky: Last is the word meaning “this”
Laura: [Normal] esto [Slow] esto
Becky: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning “How much does this cost?”
Laura: [Slow] ¿Cuánto cuesta esto? [Normal] ¿Cuánto cuesta esto?
Becky: Now, imagine that the item you are interested in is far from where you are. Here’s the way to ask, “How much does that cost?”
Laura: [Normal] ¿Cuánto cuesta eso?
Becky: First is a word meaning “how much”
Laura: [Normal] cuánto [Slow] cuánto
Becky: Next is the word meaning “cost”
Laura: [Normal] cuesta [Slow] cuesta
Becky: Last is the word meaning “that”
Laura: [Normal] eso [Slow] eso
Becky: Note again the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning “How much does that cost?”
Laura: [Slow] ¿Cuánto cuesta eso? [Normal] ¿Cuánto cuesta eso?
Becky: Here’s a response meaning “OK, I’ll take it.”
Laura: [Normal] Está bien, me lo llevo.
Becky: First is a word meaning “is”
Laura: [Normal] está [Slow] está
Becky: Next is the word meaning “ok”
Laura: [Normal] bien [Slow] bien
Becky: Next is the word meaning “me”
Laura: [Normal] me [Slow] me
Becky: Next is the word meaning “it”
Laura: [Normal] lo [Slow] lo
Becky: Last is the word meaning “take”
Laura: [Normal] llevo [Slow] llevo
Becky: Listen again to the response, “OK, I’ll take it.”
Laura: [Slow] Está bien, me lo llevo. [Normal] Está bien, me lo llevo.
Becky: Here’s a response meaning, “No, thanks. It’s too expensive.”
Laura: [Normal] No gracias, está muy caro.
Becky: First is a word meaning “no”
Laura: [Normal] no [Slow] no
Becky: Next is the word meaning “thanks”
Laura: [Normal] gracias [Slow] gracias
Becky: Next is the word meaning “is”
Laura: [Normal] está [Slow] está
Becky: Next is the word meaning “too”
Laura: [Normal] muy [Slow] muy
Becky: Last is the word meaning “expensive”
Laura: [Normal] caro [Slow] caro
Becky: Listen again to the response, “No, thanks. It’s too expensive.”
Laura: [Slow] No gracias, está muy caro. [Normal] No gracias, está muy caro.
