Eric: Hi everyone, and welcome back to SpanishPod101.com. I'm Eric.
Anna: And I'm Anna!
Eric: This is Must-Know Spanish Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 4. In this lesson you'll learn Slang for Common Words.
Eric: Spanish people tend to talk fast, and doing that means we end up using shorter words to talk about different things.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Anna: finde
Anna: tele
Anna: caña
Anna: piti
Eric: Anna, what's our first expression?
Anna: finde
Eric: literally meaning "end-of.” It is an abbreviation of
Anna: fin de semana.
Eric: So when it's used as a slang expression it means "weekend."
Anna: [SLOW] finde [NORMAL] finde
Eric: Listeners, please repeat.
Anna: finde

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to refer to the weekend in a colloquial situation.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Anna: [NORMAL] ¿Qué harás este finde? [SLOW] ¿Qué harás este finde?
Eric: "What are you gonna do on the weekend?"
Anna: [NORMAL] ¿Qué harás este finde?
Eric: Okay, what's the next expression?
Anna: tele
Eric: literally meaning "TV". As you can guess, this is the shortened form of "television."
Anna: [SLOW] tele [NORMAL] tele

Eric: Use this word when you want to say "televisión" in a more casual way, and in an informal speech.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.

Eric: "I can't find the TV remote."
Anna: [NORMAL] No encuentro el mando de la tele.
Eric: Okay, what's the next expression?
Anna: caña
Eric: literally meaning "cane." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "glass of draft beer."
Anna: [SLOW] caña [NORMAL] caña

Eric: Use this slang expression when you go to a bar and want to drink a glass of draft beer. You can give your order to the waiter by saying -
Anna: Una caña, por favor.
Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Anna: [NORMAL] Ayer fui a tomar unas cañas con mis amigos. [SLOW] Ayer fui a tomar unas cañas con mis amigos.
Eric: "Yesterday, I went to drink some beers with my friends."
Anna: [NORMAL] Ayer fui a tomar unas cañas con mis amigos.
Eric: Okay, what's the last expression?
Anna: piti
Eric: When it's used as a slang expression it means "a cigarette."
