Eric: This is Must-Know Mexican Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 16. In this lesson you'll learn Expressions to Talk About Common Scenarios in Mexico.
Eric: You will hear these expressions often on TV, even if you are watching the news.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Laura: hacer la vista gorda
Laura: andar con rodeos
Laura: tapar el sol con un dedo
Laura: hacerse agua la boca
Eric: Laura, what's our first expression?
Laura: hacer la vista gorda
Eric: literally meaning "make the eyesight fat." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "turn a blind eye, look the other way."
Laura: [SLOW] hacer la vista gorda [NORMAL] hacer la vista gorda

Eric: Use this slang expression when someone is trying to ignore something; when they know that something is going on, but don't do anything about it even though they should.

Eric: literally meaning "to walk around in circles." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "to beat around the bush."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express that someone is beating around the bush, not saying something directly.

Eric: literally meaning "cover the sun with one finger." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "bury your head in the sand, try to ignore the reality."

Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to say that someone tries to ignore the truth or hide the reality either for themselves or for others.

Eric: literally meaning "to make one's mouth water." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "to salivate over food, crave food."
