Learn Spanish with SpanishPod101.com! Welcome to the first installment of our Mexican Spanish Lessons! As part of our Regional Spanish Series, our Mexican Lessons will focus on Spanish as it’s actually spoken in Mexico. Join Gayne and Kingsley, as they compare and contrast the conversation from Newbie Lesson 1 with a conversation that they’ll introduce in today’s lesson. Also, don’t forget to go back and compare these lessons with Peruvian Lesson 1 and Iberian Lesson 1 for a deeper understanding. The Regional Series at SpanishPod101.com offers a unique perspective on the flavor of spoken Spanish. By listening and comparing, students are given the opportunity to conceptualize the richness of the language and it’s adaptability which is evinced by the local expressions and pronunciation from one region to the next. Help us welcome Gayne and Kingsley to the Regional Team and ¡suelta la lengua con SpanishPod101.com!

So, had any of you heard the expression “¿qué pasó?” before this lesson? If you had, did you think that the person who said it was talking about the present or the past?
It can be a little tricky, can’t it?
I really enjoied this lesson because my girlfriend’s family is from Mexico (she still doesn’t know I’m learning Spanish). Can we hear more regional lessons from Mexico?
Dane,
Hi there. Hey man, great reason to learn Spanish. I’m sure it will mean a lot to both of you. As for the regional Mexican lessons, we actually have put that format on hold for the time being. I’m not sure how many Regional Spanish Lessons you’ve listened to so far, but you will notice that they differ quite a bit from our Core Curriculum Lessons (like Newbie, Beginner, Lower/Upper Intermediate).
Instead, we’re teaching regional aspects of the language and culture now in the core curriculum. Our instructors and hosts are from Peru, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico and Argentina. If you’re interested in learning more Mexican Spanish right now, you can listen to Lower Intermediate Lessons. Ana, one of the hostesses, is from Mexico. Her and Kathy, who is Peruvian, also host Upper Intermediate Lessons 1-9. Finally, you can also check out the Audio Blogs we recorded in Mexico.
Another option to improve your understanding of Mexican Spanish is to open up a thread in the Forum. Thanks again for your interest and let me know if I can help in any way.
Best,
Joseph
